Starting music lessons is exciting—and sometimes a little intimidating—and the first year is where students build the habits that lead to real progress. Here’s what you can expect as you begin lessons at Mosaic Music.
FIRST Lesson: Setup, goals, and fundamentals
Your teacher will ask about your musical interests, your experience level, and your goals (songs you love, styles you want to play, and how often you can practice).
You’ll start to learn about posture, hand positions, the basics of rhythm and tone, and how to practice when you're at home.
Simple warm-up routines
Easy exercises and basic songs
A short daily practice plan you can actually stick to
FIRST Month: Building confidence and consistency
Most students start to feel much more comfortable once practice becomes routine at home. But, consistency is everything. Lessons focus on small changes in your playing that add up quickly—better rhythm, smoother technique, and clearer sound. But, it all comes down to practice. If you’re a parent, ask your teacher how to support practice at home without turning it into a battle.
FIRST Year: Milestones and progress
By the end of the first year, students typically have a practice routine that is painless and consistent, a growing list of songs they have mastered and can play with confidence, and an eagerness to play and practice more. Your teacher will frequently review your progress with you and set clear goals for the future. At Mosaic Music, we encourage our students to direct the progress of their lessons towards the music style they want to play and the techniques they want to master. Talk to your teacher, often, about what you want to achieve and where you want your lessons to go. That is the easiest way to ensure that your lessons continue to be inspiring and fun.
